Lieutenant Governor Michael Fedele Expresses Condolences to

Italian Earthquake Victims and Reaches Out in Support

Minturno is only one hour away from L’Aquila, Italy but when disaster strikes that distance shrinks to what seems to be only the distance of one neighborhood.

Lieutenant Governor Fedele has been in constant contact with friends and family back home in Minturno, Italy as well as several Italian social organizations around Connecticut whose members are from the Abruzzo region that has been so deeply affected by the earthquake.

“Like everyone who has been watching the news, when disasters like this earthquake happen, your first instinct is to say a quiet prayer and then wonder what you can do to help,” said Lieutenant Governor Fedele. “The American Red Cross International Response Teams are mobilized and standing ready to support the Italian Red Cross with whatever they need. Italian organizations are requesting donations and I have also asked what my office can do to support Americares efforts. Coming during Holy Week, the most sacred of weeks for Catholics, the devastation and loss is a reminder of how fragile life truly is and mankind’s generous spirit in the face of tragedy.”

Being the first few days after the earthquake, efforts and recovery will take months. The American Red Cross has asked that anyone who wants to help can visit www.redcross.org and donate to the International Response Fund—then mark your donation for the L’Aquila earthquake victims and their donation will be dedicated to those efforts.

Updates will continue in the days and weeks to come.
